Ricardo Alcívar, an artist from Jama
At age 12, Ricardo found a pottery piece and discovered the purpose of his life. He claims to be the reincarnation of some jama-coaque artist, and that is why he understands. He is not just a man: he is a jaguar, a bat and an eagle, "a researcher and a dreamer."
Ricardo lives in Jama, a canton of Manabí that never had a museum that could compare to all the work he has achieved. So six years ago he began the project of making his house a gallery that annually welcomes thousands of people. There he has several works made by him, almost all wood replicas of clay and ceramic objects that he has unearthed in the area since he was a child.
This is his work: simple, but tough. Sometimes it seems ephemeral, but the key is constant work, finding his way on the move.
