- Marbella Design: a meeting with design at Costa del Sol
Focused on design, art and contemporary architecture, the first international fair dedicated to design took place in Spain during April 4-9: the Marbella Design Fair, held at the “Adolfo Suárez” Conference and Exhibition Center, Costa del Sol.
After the success of the three editions of Art Marbella, its organizers have gone further: “we want to renew our commitment to turn the city of Marbella and Costa del Sol into a point of reference for a dialogue between art, design and architecture” says Alejandro Zaia, president and founder of both exhibitions.
Arte por Excelencias, media partner and collaborator of these meetings, took the opportunity to return to Marbella and learn firsthand the proposals of about twenty exhibitors from the United States, France, Italy, Sweden, United Kingdom and Spain.
While this call was discreet in terms of the number of countries and participants, each brought its best, from sculptures by Jeff Koons, the avant-garde projects of Pia Myrvold and Karim Rashid, to historical samples such as Geometry & Plexiglas (circa 1970), exhibited by the José de la Mano gallery in Madrid.
One of the places where the symbiosis between design and fine arts could clearly be seen was on the stand of Norwegian Pia Myrvold. She turns her paintings, of an exceptional coloring, into garments; she also creates digital art, lamps and futuristic sculptures, which are activated by tropical light.
