Parallel to the Sant Jordi celebrations, where you usually present someone else with a rose and a book as a token of friendship, the ninth edition of the Feria Internacional del Libro de Artista y Edición Contemporánea ArtsLibris (ArtsLibris International Fair of the Artistic Book and Contemporary Edition) has been held in Santa Mónica de Barcelona. As part of the event, a number of complementary activities have been held such as a cycle of talks, with the participation of editors, gallery owners, artists and critics, on the different aspects related to the current artistic and social-political situation.
The workshops are also an important part of the fair. They are aimed to an audience that has no previous knowledge and deal with topics related to book binding, the creation of the artistic book, the collage technique, and the exploration of the classic dictionary, serigraphy, and pop-up (the creation of tridimensional cards in motion.) ArtsLibris V International Symposium has allowed reflecting on the importance of collecting artistic books.
Two exhibitions have been held in Santa Mónica. The first one has showed the work of a group of conceptual artists entitled Bibliotecas insólitas (Unusual libraries.) The second one is Nueva York en fotolibros (New York in books,) and shows a collection of books edited in several parts of the world, being New York City the main motif of the photographic work of the participating artists.
