- Life has changed
Twenty-five years have passed since I first shared a dream or an idea with Manolito Simonet. He dreamed of conquering Cuba with a different sound while I would read some verses of Neruda´s to a certain lady who had conquered my ideas and dreams.
We met again a few days before the end of that year and he invited me to see a rehearsal of his orchestra; it was a "full-of-utopia" troop that supported his ideas and dreams.
The years and music went by. The former contributed to growing gray hair, children, experiences and wisdom. Music was perfected, taking its own course, and little by little Manolito Simonet and his musicians - now grouped under the “coat of arms” of the Trabuco - found a very peculiar sound, different and at the same time complementary of these times.
This is how the recordings have arrived, some with greater fortune than others, but each one thought in a serial way, invisibly connected to the achievement of a dream.
A CD changed the life of Simonet and his musicians twenty five years ago. Today another album proposes and imposes on us the importance of change, progress and its vision of the musical avant-garde of these times.
Here the sound of the Trabuco is completely defined. It is a sound manifesto of Cuban popular dance music of these digital times; it is inclusive because it takes all generations into account, and makes us enjoy all the possible Cuban rhythms in a wise combination of tradition and avant-garde. It is not dull.
It is purely urban music and poetry. This is what I can state, because the urban is where we live, dream and make ourselves known; it is the space where the characters we know are born through the songs and the verb that the musician proposes to us.
