After Germany was defeated in World War I(1914-1918), the country had to cope with a group of sanctions, such as the ban to manufacture military equipment. BMW, which used to produce engines for airplanes, had to close down its factories. In 1923, a legendary decision was made: they would manufacture motorcycles. 

BMW motorbikes are famous in the two-wheel realm. This is the first BMW, made in 1923. Nowadays, BMW is the only brandthat produces motorcycles in Germany. Since day 1, BMW created a new and improved quality standard for bikes.
