1959 MG A The Legacy of a Cuban Family
British brand MG, launched in 1923, was almost exclusively devoted to the manufacturing of sports cars. Its presence in the market for over 50 years, with its sports and classic looks, is backed up by the heftiness and reliability of its products, coupled with reasonably affordable prices. Since 1945,most of MG’s production was exported and nearly 500 000 cars have been sold abroad in the course of 30 years.
In 1959, MG A series featured a disc brake system in the front wheels and the engine’s cylindershad been enhanced to 1.6 L. Such models were shipped to Havana and showcased at the Willy’s Overland agency, MG’s official distributor. That was where Manuel Alejandro’s father, Manuel Martinez, bought one of these racing cars and he turned it into the family’s heritage. His son got his driving license at the age of 18 and since then he took overthat legacy: a 1959 MG A. He has driven this car throughout Cuba and has used it in wedding ceremonies of friends, relatives and his own.
