With its unmatched dancing performance, Irene Rodriguez has managed to fill with praise the pages of newspapers and magazines. There is no scenario, role, audience or favorable adjective that the dancer has not conquered. Passionate and intense, some describe her. Seductive and accurate, others have said. But the truth is that is enough one qualifier to define her: surprising.
"The intensity has been a constant in my career. I have the philosophy of doing things as if there were no tomorrow. I train every day as if the function was on the following day. I dance believing it is the last time. Although it has its downside, I live for my career. From the moment I walked into the dance I have not had time for anything else ", says the artist born in 1982 and who since 1993 joined the Spanish Ballet of Cuba (BEC), under the tutelage of Master Eduardo Veitía.
"I have the honor to belong to the first class of the National Academy of Spanish Dance, sponsored by the BEC, which was created from the experience they had with me. I graduated as a professional dancer in 1999 and gradually began to assume responsibility in solos ".
She won Choreography Award granted by the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). In 2012, founded her own company and has shared stage with the National Ballet of Cuba; she is artistic director of the International Festival Footprint of Spain; her performance in the show De lo clásico al flamenco, with pianist Frank Fernandez and the National Symphony Orchestra earned her inclusion in the book of honor of the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso; the choreography El crime fue en Granada, inspired by the eponymous poem by Antonio Machado, made her deserve the first prize at the VII Ibero-American Choreography Contest Alicia Alonso ...
"My choreographic task focuses on finding, exploiting the maximum possibilities of the dancer. I like to create for the entire company. I always bet on delivery without restraints. I intend for our performance to be like a choir, to achieve harmony from individuality. Dancing is a mean of expression and therefore I try for everybody to manifest according to the rhythm of their feelings and own vocabulary. "
