It will be in 2017 when the Iranian capital will be surprised at The Seattle-Havana-Tehran poster show; a remarkable exhibition which opened in the United States in 2015 and this year hosted the Spanish American Center of Culture of the main city of Cuba. The latter occurred as part of the second edition of the Poster Festival.
On the island, The Seattle-Havana-Tehran Poster show brought together 69 pieces made in the last ten years by designers resident in three points of the planetary geography. The aim was to offer a very particular view to the poster art as an artistic branch.
Pepe Menendez, the Cuban side curator, said that the exhibition was preceded by the first visit to Havana by David Smith, an American artist who is the chief designer and project manager. Ten years ago, Smith had the opportunity to meet the young poster in Cuba, which already showed a dynamism that has grown over time.
David Smith admits that it was a challenge to come to Havana a decade ago. "Here we discover the interesting work done in Cuba. However, eventually I wanted to go to a more difficult and challenging place. I left for Tehran, thanks to an exchange peace project. In just two weeks I met a relevant group of young designers and their ways of conceiving the poster”.
