- Andy Montañez now has the keys!
For Andrés Montañez Rodríguez, the gates of Cuba have always been open since his first travel to the island in the eighties. Popularly known as Andy Montañez, he has chosen to be a singer by vocation, although when he was a child he wanted to be a lawyer.
Andy worked with the Puerto Rican Gran Combo for fifteen successful years. In 1977 he left the group that made him be known internationally and went to sing in the popular Venezuelan orchestra Dimensión Latina.
With his simplicity, versatility and excellent vocal and human qualities, he became the first Puerto Rican to have a star on the United States Walk of Fame. In 2006 he won the Latin Grammy for the best traditional album with AM/PM. Líneas paralelas, along with Cuban Pablo Milanés.
This 2018 he came to the 38th edition of the Caribbean Festival and once again walked along the streets of Santiago. He gave a concert with Karachi band at the Heredia Cultural Complex. There he received the Keys to the City. His previous visits were already countless but this was different now: he´s got the keys!
