On the initiative of the Corporación Colombiana de Teatro (Colombian Theater Corporation), chaired by actress, director, poet and political activist Patricia Ariza, with the collaboration of twenty-five cultural, academic and social organizations and the support of the Ministry of Culture, the «Art and Culture for Peace, Reconciliation and Coexistence» National Summit was held in Bogotá, from August 2 to 5.
The summit was convened with the purpose of «changing the culture of war for the culture of peace», showing how art and culture are effective weapons to replace exclusion, hatred and revenge, and supplant violent practices and exclusionary attitudes.
On the eve of a new government taking office that may put at risk the path traveled until now, and with significant pending issues of what was signed in the agreements, the event was a breath of life and hopes for the future of Colombia and at the same time an appeal to the citizenry awareness.
