«My first cocktail -he recalls- was called El trago mío (My drink) and I created it when I was a child. It had tomato juice, beer and olives. That's where everything started. I grew up and became friends with prominent figures from the Cuban bartender community who taught me a lot and guided me through the art of cocktail. That's how I started until in 2003 I became an official member of the Cuban Bartenders' Association. I was always interested in history, mainly the history of the trade I chose to devote my life to. I dedicated myself to study and research about the origin of Cuban cocktails; the masters who preceded us; the emergence of the Club de Cantineros (Barmen Association) of the Republic of Cuba, officially founded in Havana on June 27, 1924, and recognized as the oldest association of bartenders in a country with official records in the world; the specialized publications; the first mixology recipe book, published by the Club de Cantineros in 1930. You see, in 1930 we already had a manual. Our cocktails have gone around the world and are acclaimed anywhere. For example, the IBA's International Cocktail Recipes include Cuba Libre, Daiquiri, Mojito, Adán y Eva (the winning cocktail of the World Championship in Seville, Spain, 2003), and Cohíba Dry, Ocaso, Sabor Melodía and Havana Fusión (winners of the Pan-American events)».
