Dominican Republic. A Symphony of Sensations under the Sun
Just imagine 365 days of good weather, gorgeous destinations, all the options in terms of watersports, hot rhythms, superb cuisine and a whole lot more backed up by a staggering 67,000 comfy guestrooms.
Enjoying the sea coupled with culture and nature, and having a convenient hotel designed to give you satisfaction guaranteed right at your fingertips, combine in one of the undisputed promises the Dominican Republic has to offer and a reason why the country reeled in 4.3 million sunbathers last years alone. The star of this show is no doubt Bavaro-Punta Cana and its arrays of all-inclusive fancy resorts, golf courses and marinas hemmed in by breathtaking beaches, let alone a highly competitive infrastructure full of quality and varied services. This place is home to the nation’s largest number of lodgings –over 60 establishments from the most prestigious international hotel chains- totaling 34,010 rooms in all, more than half of the country’s entire accommodation stock. Another heavyweight destination is Puerto Plata, the Bride of the Atlantic and a major cruise port, a bohemian-like city teeming with nightclubs, bars and casinos whose seashore harbors some of the boldface names of grand tourism worldwide, like Playa Dorada or Costambar. There are top-notch hotels here whose conveniences are mostly linked to the sea. There are 14,069 guestrooms, by far the Dominican Republic’s second-largest destination in terms of accommodation and tourist arrivals. Santo Domingo, the first city ever founded in the Americas and the nation’s main port of entry, is going stronger as a major destination. Local tourism authorities have their minds made up to focus on making the most of the capital’s potentials for the sector: the Las Americas and Herrera international airports, plus 6,556 first-string hotel rooms and a 500-year-old historic center, among other conveniences and attractions. Based on its exotic beaches and jaw-dropping scenery, Samana is just another big-time destination in the Dominican Republic. This location is home to El Salto del Limon and Cayo Levantado, two of the most amazingly beautiful spots in this country of barely 19,000 square miles. All in all, this is a genuine symphony of magnificent sensations and pleasures under the tropical sun. Only 2,216 guestrooms are operational right now, yet the building of as many as 10,000 new rooms is in the works, good enough to rake in little more than half a million tourists every year. And as soon as that project kicks into full swing, what is now known as “the most untapped land” of the country will become one of the main travel destinations in the entire Caribbean area.
