This is a poet marked by singular expressiveness that sail through descriptive details and pictorial richness and whose alleged simplicity also serves as a driving force capable of unraveling the symbiosis between the symbolic and the real. Solitudes, open spaces, spirituality, nature, the sea and people have always been present in Prieto’s work and throughout his entire artistic life. Yet the most particular part of his themes or subjects is the author’s imagination in addressing them with both overspill and elegance, out of the classic esthetic boundaries that either gagged or exerted tremendous influence in many painters of his own time. Perhaps that explains why some of his staunchest sages and biographers agree to underscore his expressive symbolism; that special skill Prieto has to turn anything, like a horizon line over the ocean, into a fine-art emotion. And from that seemingly fruitless reality, he manages to rekindle a dream, reinvent the landscape and make heads turn.
