More Destinations, New Frequencies, Better Timetables

This expansion came on the heels of the acquisition of ten Boeing 737 Sky Interior aircraft a few months ago –the company will receive nine more this same year- with which Copa Airlines became the first Latin American air company to make use of this jetliner, a move that dramatically improves passengers’ onboard experience thanks to better design and more comfort.

The airline’s expansion plans not only buttress its leadership in the region as connectivity out of Panama accrues, but they also beef up its stance as business center and world-class travel destination.

In 2010, COPA AIRLINES transported over 5.2 million passengers through the region’s most complete route mesh: the hub of the Americas, the best-connected of its kind in Latin America. With punctuality rates above 90 percent –among the finest figures in the aviation industry according to the standards set up by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)- this is no doubt the leading air company in Latin America.

For the ongoing year and the arrival of 10 brand-new Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the growth will definitely be much higher as the airline will add 1,000 more jobs –pilots, technicians, crew members and management personnel. This addition will pave the way for further expansion and will chip in a whole lot more to the commercial and tourist advance of both Panama and the region.

More and better frequencies and schedules for business travelers

Beginning June 15, the transition from a system of four to another one of six connection timetable groups will allow Copa Airlines to provide its passengers with better scheduling options thanks to the use of existing infrastructure at the Tocumen International Airport.

From that date on, the hub of the Americas at the Tocumen Airport, in addition to the flight schedules now in operation –two in the morning and two in the afternoon- will operate a new group of flights taking off first thing in the morning and in mid afternoon –an ideal timetable for travelers eager to get to their destinations early. In the same breath, the afternoon schedule will cash in on the airport’s off-peak hours. These operational changes render in significant improvements in the flight schedules offered by Copa Airlines to major destinations in the Americas, like New York, Washington DC and all main cities in South America. At the same time, it provides far more connection opportunities for passengers and cuts down on delays by coming up with more convenient timetables.

In addition to the opening of new flights to Toronto, Porto Alegre and Nassau, with four weekly flights to the three cities beginning June 15, Copa Airlines will jack up its weekly flights to the following destinations: Lima, Peru (5 flights), Orlando, USA (3 flights), Miami, USA (4 flights), Bogota, Colombia (6 flights), Santiago de Chile (3 flights). Another piece of breaking news is the opening of the Panama City-Brasilia and Porto Alegre connections beginning June 15, with four weekly nonstop flights.

The airline is also recognized for marching ahead in terms of applied technology and for counting on one of Latin America’s newest fleets.
