With over 1,300 slips, hotels, condos, shopping malls, technical services and other facilities, the execution of the Marina Gaviota Varadero project will make it the Caribbean’s largest tourism seaport.


Varadero, the flagship sun-and-beach travel destination of Cuba and the Americas, is once again in the crosshairs of major travel agents and sunbathers from around the world. This time around, it’s not about a new hotel or service. Nestled in the tip of the Hicacos Peninsula and near the fanciest hotels in the region, the Marina Gaviota Varadero is laying the foundations of a new era in Cuba as it will hail sailing tourism.
This maritime compound, perched on one of the most bustling routes for international recreational yachting, is by far one of the top development projects of the island nation’s leading tourism company, Grupo de Turismo Gaviota S.A. When completed, this will be the largest tourism-oriented seaport of both Cuba and the Caribbean.
Devised as the heaviest Cuban investment in the travel sector, it could dock either small boats or the most luxurious mega-yachts. A large fleet of catamarans, leisure yachts and fishing boats are also stocked there, thus offering docking slips for passing sailors and an all-out service of boat maintenance and repair.
It’s also outfitted with a diving center and it delivers a number of excursions, including the Crucero del Sol (Sun Cruise). This is an interesting ride aboard France-made Tahiti 75 and 80 catamarans, decked with free drinks, snorkeling through the coral reefs, seafood lunch and a swim off Cayo Blanco. And for the most demanding guests, there’s an array of sea tours, swims with dolphins, scuba diving and fishing.
A one-of-a-kind facility in Cuba for its design concept, one of the gastronomic options on the premises is the Kike y Kcho Restaurant, where patrons can revel in an exquisite seafood menu and even handpick right on the spot a particular lobster they’ll love to eat.

Breathtaking views of the marina, modern guestrooms and apartments, direct and private access to the beach, four swimming pools, plus fifteen bars and specialized restaurants, meeting rooms, Wi-Fi connection and a spa are some of the conveniences designed for visitors.
Marina Gaviota Varadero also features an assortment of facilities and conveniences, like the Paseo Marinero. The commercial area gathers a-la-carte specialty restaurants, stores, boutiques, a handcraft market, a bowling gallery, a ballroom, a nautical club, a spa, a heliport, a yachter’s shop and a lighthouse of its own.
