Bobby Carcassés, fundador del festival
El evento es una comunión de grandes intérpretes del género de Cuba y el mundo.
Los más noveles músicos fueron también protagonistas.

The International Festival Jazz Plaza is one of the most expected and followed events in Cuba. It all started in 1980 with a series of meetings organized by Bobby Carcasses, in the House of Culture of Plaza in Havana. During the 80s, the impact of the festival grew thanks to the progressive increase of its participants and the institutions that supported it.
Since its first editions, the festival promoted the exchange between young and established representatives of Cuban and foreign jazz, Dizzy Gillespie, Tete Montoliu, Hardgroove Roy and Ronnie Scott, among others, which also allowed it to achieve worldwide recognition.
Also the local jazz of the island got enriched due to the collateral events of great importance. An example of this is the creation of the Jazz International Colloquium in 2004. This theoretical meeting promoted the organization of lectures, acting workshops, presentations of albums, audiovisual productions and digital sites as well as research work.
In all this time the Jazz Plaza has facilitated the convergence of this genre with others, such as popular music, rumba and rock.
The festival just finished its 31th edition with participating bands from the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Canada, Spain, Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Japan, Australia, Spain, Austria, Norway ... From Cuba, there were exponents not only from  Havana but also from  Santiago de Cuba, Camagüey, Matanzas ...
With great exponents of the jazz at the international level, Havana just experienced one of the most significant cultural events in the island: the International Jazz Plaza 2015 Festival.
