- Lights of a new generation of jazz in Cuba.
A few days ago, Zule Guerra and Albertico Lescay offered a special concert in the event CubaAhora the next generation. They performed as representatives of the jazz movement and as an occasional duet at the headquarters of the Cultural Department of Spain in Miami. They combined their talents and showed different sides of their competences as composers, arrangers and performers.
For the occasion, while Zule Guerra brought her remarkable vocal and interpretive qualities, Albertico Lescay showed his recognized virtuosity as a trumpeter, pianist and treatment of synthesizers.
Zule Guerra, director of the group Blues de Habana and Albertico Lescay, in charge of the project Formas, are two examples of contemporary Cuban music. They defend unique styles. Blues de Habana stands out for the influences of feeling, R & B, funk, blues, rumba and bossa nova, while Formas is recognized by the influences of traditional popular genres in eastern Cuba, the use of electronic sounds and an important relationship with plastic and visual arts.
For this event different artists and art expressions such as theater, visual arts, literature and dance came together. These expressions will be promoted throughout the three months this festival lasts. Within this diversity, the musical work of Zule Guerra and Albertico Lescay evidence other forms of Cuban music, characterized by a high aesthetic and musical conception. They are examples of the current generation of artists in Cuba who defend jazz with new lights.
