Les Ballet de Montecarlo in Havana.
Accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess of Hanover, the Theatre Festival of Havana brought the National Theatre Les Ballets de Montecarlo. Undoubtedly, the debut of that major company in Cuba was an extraordinary event.
It was the Princess of Hanover who founded Les Ballets de Montecarlo in 1985. Today the company is among the best of the world in choreographic art.
In 1993, Jean-Christophe Maillot was appointed director and choreographer of the group. His original creations and versions of other classics have made the company have a very unique repertoire.
The welcoming event was carried out by students and teachers of the National School of Ballet Fernando Alonso. It was very emotional event for these special guests; 50 dancers from 20 countries. At the meeting, the Princess of Hanover praised the high level and performing quality of the artists in training. The Princess of Hanover and Jean Christophe Maillot expressed their interest in establishing exchange programs between the academies of Cuba and the Principality of Monaco as well as offering scholarships and internships.
Additionally, the Princess of Hanover and Jean Christophe Maillot met Alicia Alonso, prima ballerina assolutta and director of the National Ballet of Cuba.
For the performance in Havana, Les Ballet de Montecarlo chose Cinderella. Music, lighting, sets and costumes were combined to offer a fist-class show.
A broad and diverse choreographic production placed Jean-Christophe Maillot within the most relevant authors of contemporary dance. His managerial performance at Les Ballets de Montecarlo has allowed the company to display a significant improvement. Enjoying Cinderella by Les Ballet de Montecarlo was an exceptional pleasure for the Cuban people.
