This fine artist from Santiago de Cuba is celebrating his 60th birthday with an individual exhibit entitled Nganga. This prolific creator faithful to his African-Cuban roots is coming up with pieces inspired in those religious sentiments he grew up with, that forged his character and has for some time ruled each and every act of his creation.

Master of Arts in sculpture, architecture, painting and graphics further enhanced his creative possibilities, he’s recognized for his prolific, fertile and unfathomable creative strength, not to mention the permanent footprint he as left in the island nation’s cultural movement. A bronze-cast statue of Cuban freedom fighter Antonio Maceo in the Santiago de Cuba Revolution Square, or the monument he built for Che Guevara in the city of Santa Clara, among others, are good cases in point. The Nganga exhibition –a blend of art and spirituality– has served the artist to revisit his roots and as a way to pay tribute to the mystical power of his ancestors and dedicate his puzzling metaphors to all of them.
