THIS MOUTH IS OUR
This world is more and more upside down. We can corroborate those who lived in the last decades of the twentieth century and almost two decades of the XXI. We are no longer a small human world on a large planet, but a great world on a small planet, as scientists warn unheard. We face the worst extinction of wild animals since the time of the dinosaurs, in only half a century of the many that has lived the planet Earth.
Every natural phenomenon is more devastating at any of the four cardinal points, and even the seasons of the climate move everywhere. It is not only that glaciers are melting, the same in the center of Europe as in the North Pole. Rivers and lakes are also the most affected habitats, due to excessive water withdrawal and pollution. Humanity is completely dependent on nature –even when the digital world can simulate the opposite– both to consume clean air, water, and food, than to inspiration and happiness.
Along with climate change, the collapse of wildlife is the most significant sign of a new geological age in which humans dominate the planet: it is called the Anthropocene. It is the conclusion of the "Living Planet Report 2016" report on the health of our planet and the impact of human activity. It is the scientists who state: "If we lose biodiversity support systems, the natural world, as we know it today, will collapse."
That is the fundamental reason why an art and culture magazine emphasizes the coexistence of tourism, sustainable development and the struggle for biodiversity in the Galapagos Islands, removed from the list of the world's endangered heritage. Or that in 2017 we should highlight the self-sacrificing work of declaring Rumba, Carnival of Callao and Merengue in Latin America as Intangible Heritage of Humanity, recognized by Unesco during its sessions in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
And it is that we must continue to defend the historical memory, the sense of our species on this planet. Enhance the great and the beautiful that man creates about him. It is no longer an option to do as those three monkeys, supposedly wise to use their hands to not listen, not to observe, not to say ...
Let's do something more every day, however small, to keep life alive on this Earth, which is the soil we inhabit. Let us teach to defend in our actions mother nature, the right to the diversity of those who inhabit it, the absurdity of those who claim to dominate through war. You can tell us that human life will once live in another galaxy, but in the meantime let's face it, we already live on a planet. Within it, our peoples and their nations must live together on the basis of mutual respect.
It is,now more than ever,the duty of art and culture to make everyone aware that our own destruction must be stopped in time as a human species.
