Thimo Pimentel recibe el Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas 2016.

The magazine Arte por Excelencias approached the renowned educator, researcher, museologist, photographer, athlete, reporter, editor, graphic artist, animator, entrepreneur and cultural manager Dominican Thimo Pimentel, National Prize for Plastic Arts 2016 in the Dominican Republic, with whom exchanged opinions and reflections.
“I have said that the awards and prizes honor, but that in no way are the result of exclusivity. Becoming recognized will always be grateful, but ungrateful would be to not remember those who have contributed as a team to our side to achieve it”.
“I am essentially irreverent as I was an orphan since the age of 6. The provocation and irony are elements that I passionately enjoy achieving to love my land and my friends“.
“I was asked to straighten out my country's Tourism Office in Madrid and be there for six months to do it. Eventually, I spent five years and I believe that I helped the minister at the time, the almost familiar Fernando Rainieri, to develop his plan for what is now harvested from Europe”.
“Gastronomy is an important pillar for tourism, and since we are the center island of the Caribbean we have all the flavors. Not taking advantage of what represents an academy of gastronomy and boosting it with the good food of ours would be to throw a luxury overboard”.
“In the visual art we enjoy every day with a dawn, a rainbow, a sunset or an abundance of greens and blues with the incomparable light of this caribbean of  the Caribbeans, in the exuberant and magical island.”
“We work in the hope that one morning will surprise us with a find, that we can offer culture to our people, knowing art and enjoying it, and at the same time knowing more about who we are, how we are and what we want to be”.
