- La Manzana de Gomez: Cuba’s Most Luxurious Hotel.
KEMPINSKI, EUROPE’S OLDEST HOTEL CHAIN, IS GOING TO MANAGE, IN COLLABORATION WITH GAVIOTA S.A TOURISM GROUP, THE MOST LUXURIOUS HOTEL IN CUBA, WHICH IS BEING BUILT AT THE SO-CALLED MANZANA DE GOMEZ IN HAVANA
Cuba is getting ready, with luxurious hotel facilities, to become one of the top travel destinations of the Caribbean. The Island’s gorgeous beaches won’t be the only element attracting tourists, with growing numbers flocking in every year. The cultural wealth of the emblematic Cuban cities will also represent a good reason to visit the national territory.
That’s the aim of a new five-star hotel that is being built in the oldest area of the capital, declared World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Famous Manzana de Gomez, built in 1917 and owned by well-heeled Andres Gomez Mena before 1959, will host the luxurious facility managed by Germany’s Kempinski and Gaviota S.A, the leading company of Cuba’s travel industry.
The eclectic-style building, nestled right in front of the Central Park, will keep its original structure, with two inner streets that diagonally cross the facility. Its large spaces and high props speak of its monumental character and glamour.
The ritzy hotel, slated to open in late 2016, is perched on a historic property. The building was initially designed with one floor, but four stories were later added. It was the second mall created in the country and became one of the most bustling spots of the urban life at the time.
La Manzana de Gomez housed over 500 cubicles where several offices were based, as well as the Pittman business academies on the second floor, and Gregg on the fifth. The Iberian American Culture Institution, chaired by Mr. Fernando Ortiz, was also located here, just like some consulates. Likewise, many lawyers had their offices in this space, where famous Show magazine, by Carlos M. Palma, was based too.
Its over 200 rooms are going to feature high comfort standards, with a certain touch of exoticism and romance, blended with the local aesthetics. Guests can choose among different types of rooms: presidential suite, suites, junior suites, mini suite, standard doubles, and matrimonial rooms. Conveniences for impaired people have also been taken into account. Likewise, guests will have access to such services as spa, gym, pool, viewpoint restaurant, multipurpose hall, international and gourmet restaurant, department stores and panoramic elevators, which will make them all enjoy the classic environment.
In the same breath, being close to the National Capitol, the Prado Promenade, and the world-acclaimed El Floridita bar-restaurant, packs a luxury wallop for the new Manzana de Gomez and its surroundings.
