Guantanamo-Pinar-Havana classic rally: twelve days on wheels
The Cuban Classic Cycle Race is near to match an authentic road show: Cuba Cycle Tour. Without reaching that level, over 80 Cuban cyclists participated, on February 16 - 28, in the always intrepid adventure of touring the island, accompanied (just like it has happened over the past fourteen years) by a fleet of Peugeot cars. Once again, Jose Mojica wore the champion jersey.
Even before the opening circuit in Guantanamo, everybody knew that Mojica would have Vicente Sanabria as one of the strongest rivals. Although the penultimate stage of the race (CRI) witnessed an abrupt change in the order of leaders, so Vicente was left out of the podium, this cyclist and Mojica were playing the leading role throughout most of the race. Like in previous years, the champion enjoyed a Peugeot model 208 for a week, a courtesy of the French brand. Mojica, absolute winner of the competition, enjoyed the well-deserved prize and shared the Peugeot with his Artemisa team, also the champions of the race.
