The daughter of a Cuban and an Andalusian, Mercedes de Acosta was born in New York in 1893 and became one of the most controversial women of her time. The publication of her poetic anthology Imposeída in Spain by Torremozas publishing house and in Cuba by Ediciones Holguín has brought back to the international stage the life and work of La Condesa Drácula, named after the actress Tallulah Bankhead.
Regardless of conventionalities at her time, Mercedes had a huge career as a film screenwriter, novelist, poet and playwright, but it was her romantic affairs with several of the most important female figures of the golden years of Hollywood that transcended the popular imagination at the time. Some of her lovers included stars such as Greta Garbo, Isadora Duncan, Marlene Dietrich, Pola Negri, Tamara Karsavina, Tallulah Bankhead, Alla Nazimova, Eva Le Gallienne, Alla Nazimova, Katharine Cornell, Maude Adams, Edith Wharton, Amy Lowell, Tamara Platonovna and Ona Munson.
