“It is surprising that a young man like Bernardo Aja of Maruri, born just in 1973, has such a passion for the old Mexican aristocracy, today inconspicuous and faint” - wrote journalist and Mexican writer Elena Poniatowska, bestowed with 2013 Cervantes Award, in the foreword of the book that collects part of the extensive work of this renowned Spanish photographer .
Around fifty photographs, taken in Peru, Portugal, Spain and Mexico, constitute EntreMuros: a series that explores the nostalgia and melancholy of old bourgeois families living in old houses. Exhibited at Sotheby’s, Guadalajara, Nuevo Laredo, the Tlatelolco Museum in Mexico, the Biennial of Florence, Italy, the Reina de España Foundation, Matadero, the Complutense University, Madrid, the House of Culture of Spain, in Lisbon, Portugal, the series will be part of a comprehensive sample that will be inaugurated next January on the three floors of Madrid’s Casa de América.
