- Trade winds: Hedwig Dances and DanzAbierta. A real possible bridge.
A while ago, a collaborative exchange bridge between the companies Hedwig Dances, based in Chicago, USA, and DanzAbierta, based in Havana, Cuba was built. Today, that bridge widens to share creative, noble and pleasant moments from the present and to the future.
Hedwig Dances and DanzAbierta return after the creative power of cultural, emotional, experiential and knowledgeable exchange. Their artists and collaborators reaffirm their increasing willingness to rethink similar legends when reordering common stories, and by doing so they attempt to allow the present and the future to become a possible mix of dreams and realities.
Havana and the charm of its streets, the blue of its sea, its sounds and silences, has become an ideal set for other barter, part of previous exchanges. For Jan Bartoszek, choreographer who works and leads Hedwig Dances, and Susana Pous, choreographer in DanzAbierta, many feelings emerge from the memory and the sweet taste of life shared in their past and present times and from those - hopes to come; they reach deep into the actions of its various bodies, although identical. And it is the memory and those rare habits of the ones who live here and there, the ones that reveal those parts giving certainties and behaviors to intervene in similar spaces. Icy or warm, wet or dry, the body will remain reservoir of surprises, joys, losses, wishes and happiness.
After the possible winds of change that comprised the Havana premiere of the Cuban-American coproduction Trade winds, Hedwig Dances and DanzAbierta try to be convergence of friendship and kindness, an actual bridge and a dream that restores beautiful images, sounds, breaths and transformations of the dancing bodies. They are all beyond distances, face transfiguration, invention composed of ingenuity and thinking, naturalness and artificiality, joy and love for permanence and also for change.
