Carlos Acosta

Acosta Danza debuts for Cuba and the universe. Born from the efforts and dreams of the immense Carlos Acosta, the company, made up of twenty dancers, is located in Línea Street, between 4 and 6, in El Vedado neighborhood. Some think that with the creation of Acosta Danza, Carlos has had many blessings; the building the company has been given is a proof of this.
"I could just say that nobody has given me these blessings. There are a few Cubans who have come to work to Cuba after a successful career. In my case, it is someone who, with many possibilities of live comfortably anywhere in the world thanks to what he has earned, has preferred to give his heart back to his people. Someone who comes with all the information and experience accumulated over many years in order to serve his people, his country and with it new generations of dancers and choreographers.
"I don’t want to have blessings, but I see nothing wrong with Cuba and the Ministry of Culture supporting me with a ballet studio that has a high ceiling so that we can train and rehearse, like those some companies in our country have.
"The Royal Opera House does not want to let me go, nor does the Sadler's Wells. In fact, Acosta Danza is associated with the latter, so that guaranteeing the schedule of tours around Europe. The Royal Ballet also wants me to continue collaborating with them either as a coach or teacher. I am aware that I cannot disappear from the international scene, but I'll be in my Cuba, with my company.
"The line I am proposing is a modern one: a dancer who synthesizes the two styles, classic and contemporary. Behind this company will be my philosophy of life. Acosta Danza will benefit from the contacts I have managed to create throughout my career, but it will also help to build a stronger bridge to get Cuba closer to the world. Likewise, the company will contribute to making Cuba a more transnational and cosmopolitan country, but also that it remains a reservoir of art. That is what I want people to be focused on. I would also like Cuba to feel proud of Acosta Danza, that we all can feel proud, that is my intention."
