- Ten years ranking the Cuban dance creation.
Ten years ago, on the 28 July, the Dance Center of Havana (CDH, acronym) was inaugurated to unite the dance professionals residing in this city. Since then, what it was the Bartenders Club building, located at number 111 of the emblematic Paseo del Prado, houses the work of many groups from Havana and serves as headquarters to the Rosario Cardenas, DanzAbierta and Santiago Alfonso companies.
This institution also represents Flamenca Ecos, BanRarrá, JJ Traditional Dance Company, Deep Roots, Rakatán, Así Somos, Malpaso, Narciso Medina, Havana Queens, Yoldance and the newly created Acosta Danza, all first class companies with diverse aesthetic styles.
It is the CDH a space for the dialogue among all dance creators. Its rooms, corridors, stairways, serve as galleries and exhibition areas or for audiovisual showings. Naomi room -created thanks to the collaboration of the Brownstone Foundation- promotes an active link with the Faculty of Dancing Art at the University of the Arts (ISA, acronym).
Thematic cycles, workshops, master classes, funding of theses, rehearsal open to the community, and the customary Punto Fugaz, Rumba del Prado, In an exclusive interview with… La danza y sus estilos or the video-dance samples of the DVDanza Habana Festival, distinguish, among others, the center's mission.
A team of specialists-promoters facilitates the creative management of the most remarkable creators of dance in Havana. Young dancers share experiences with those of more established reputation from the halls of the CDH but also with those from other places of the city that are sheltered by the institutional duty of the CDH.
Today the institution joins, from the heart of the city, the party of the changing and memorable heritage of the dance in its varied poetic ranging from the folk styles of popular and traditional dance to contemporary dance. This institution has been recording the new treatments of Flemish art and entertainment or academic dance while legitimizing ten years of a path treasuring the Cuban identity as a genuine seducer of the national dance.
