The work El Colegio de Chelsea, la Rotonda, la casa Ranelagh y el río Támesis, painted in 1751 by Antonio Canal, also known as Canaletto, was a great media success in Italy due to its presence in the Canaletto (1697-1768) exhibition in the Museum of Rome, Braschi Palace, during April 10 to August 19, 2018, curated by Bozena Anna Kowalczyk, one of the most renowned art historians, specialized in Veneto landscape painting.
The painting was purchased in New York in 1951 by Oscar Cintas who immediately brought it to Cuba. After his death, the piece was transferred to the National Museum to meet Cintas's wish to leave, in favor of the poor of the country, all his art assets estate. Thus the state institution became a bridge between private collecting and public heritage. Since 1959 the work has been available to be appreciated by visitors in the Sala de Arte Italiano (Italian Art Hall) of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts National Museum.)
