Pinar del Río
One of the most internationally-known ecological areas for its surprising landscapes, flora and fauna, in addition to its cave systems is the province of Pinar del Río, one of the natural wonders difficult to compare.
Valle de Viñales National Park
The Valle de Viñales (Viñales Valley) is situated at some 180 km away from Havana, located in the Sierra de los Órganos in Pinar del Río province.
It is distinguished by its great ecological complexity with rocks dating from the Jurassic period. Their buttes reach heights superior to 400 meters.
Among the large series of caves excel the Cueva del Indio (Indian Cave), that of José Miguel and very close to the site, the Gran Caverna de Santo Tomás (Great Cave of St. Thomas), of some 45 km. Another resource of the region is the minero-medicinal waters of San Vicente Beach.
At Viñales, visitors can see six different types of forests and the genuine vegetation of the buttes. The fauna is another of its attractions.
One of the main crops of the region is tobacco.
Sierra del Rosario
First Biosphere Reserve recognized by UNESCO in Cuba, it is located in the eastern border of Guaniguanico Cordillera. There are several areas which stand out for its beautiful landscapes.
Soroa is located at some 80 km of the capital of Cuba, its flora is rich and favored by the heavy rainfalls of the region. It is very wide the variety of the fauna species. Soroa falls is one of the tallest of western Cuba, the fall measures 20 m.
Among the historic and cultural values of Sierra del Rosario stand out the ruins of old coffee plantations and remains of aboriginal settlements.
