THE LEAVES FOR FILLER, BINDER AND WRAPPER USED IN H. UPMANN’S FIRST GRAND RESERVE HAVE ENDURED A LONG AND THOROUGH FIVE-YEAR AGING PROCESS

The first Grand Reserve ever launched by the H. Upmann brand, with the Sir Winston vitola (ring gauge 47 x 178mm long) couldn’t show up any timelier. This is one of the brand’s most special cigars, boasting tremendous reputation among followers of H. Upmann and of all habanos in general. Now they’ll have the opportunity of enjoying this vitola whose leaves went through an extra-long aging process and is out in a very limited launch.
This unveiling opens up the Grand Reserve concept within the brand after H. Upmann rolled out its first Reserve with the Upmann No.2 vitola back in 2014, at that time featuring leaves thoroughly selected from the 2010 tobacco harvest.
In the making of this H. Upmann Grand Reserve, the finest tobacco leaves harvested in 2011 in Vuelta Abajo*, Pinar del Rio*, Cuba*. All the leaves used in the rolling of this habano for filler, binder and wrapper have endured a long and cautious five-year aging process. This additional aging process, tobacco makes tobacco release tannins and allows the leaves to have a better, sweeter and more aromatic taste.
This is a unique and exclusive output of 5,000 numbered boxes containing 20 habanos each, presented in the exquisite cases any Grand Reserve actually deserves, boasting an exquisite black finish and featuring the brand’s seal -related to the concept, with the cover decked out in gold.
These habanos have been completely rolled by hand with long filler, with tobacco leaves handpicked by seasoned blending masters, and have been assessed by over fifty experienced tasters in joint working sessions organized by the Tobacco Institute. The list of tasters includes members of the National Tasting Commission from Cuba’s most prestigious cigar factories, experts from the Cuban tobacco industry and Habanos S.A.
Sir Winston is quite an icon within the brand’s portfolio and one of the best-known and coveted habanos with the Julieta No.2 vitola among aficionados from around the world. It’s a long-format cigar that delivers a pleasant puff, a blend with a mild-to-strong taste, yet clinging to the delicate and scented character chipped in by the aging process the leaves endured.
