- Wellness & Quality of Life. A Revitalizing Experience
A comprehensive medical care program for the elderly visiting Varadero is offered by the Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos’ Matanzas-based Office
An attractive wellness and quality of life program is offered in Varadero for the elderly interested in enjoying nice and satisfactory vacations, with customized and comprehensive medical care and daily monitoring.
This rehabilitating option is provided by the Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos’ Matanzas-based Office and it helps travelers be in touch the warmth of good manners, human values and Cuban professionalism in the field of medicine.
Although the ultimate goal is to “make these people happier, who are given safety in terms of healthcare and welfare, besides rest and distraction, as well as guidance to enhance their physical performance,” according to Dr. Cecilia Valdes Santana, director of this Office.
She stresses the importance of the daily monitoring of vital signs, following the initial clinical survey and full checkup (both physical and intellectual) carried out on the very first day and, depending on the results, visitors are given guidance during their stay.
The members of these groups also do exercises every day and respiratory physical activities. Likewise, they go through a socialization process that includes passive exercises, beach sessions or visits to interesting places and, although the program has been designed for seven days, it can be prolonged as requested by the vacationers.
On this offer, the director of the Office explained: “the optimism based on wisdom, from internal resources and expressed in satisfaction, represents the best result of a project; that is the aspiration of the comprehensive program conceived for the elderly.”
How are these medical-guided
vacations going to be?
“The idea was based on the prestige of the Cuban Public Healthcare System, as well as the culture developed in terms of the care to the elderly. The main interest is to directly work with people, regardless of their disease or handicap, and see them off with improved quality of life,” Dr. Valdes Santana underlined.
This program is carried out by a multidisciplinary team made up of an internal medicine specialist, master in satisfactory longevity; specialist in comprehensive general medicine and second-degree specialists in natural and traditional medicine, master in bioenergetics and graduate in homeopathic medicine; and a nurse, doctor in sciences and assistant professor at the university. Likewise, the team is supported by two graduates in rehabilitation and one graduate in nutrition and dietetics.
Moreover, a doctor’s office has been fitted for medical emergencies and daily treatments, which counts on a therapy-unit ambulance. The drugstore features a well-assorted inventory of medicaments and items required by vacationers.
Other programs facilitate nutritional guidance, consultancy and such rehabilitation services as massages, reflexology, acupressure, respiratory exercises and beach activities. The Quality of Life project can include odontology services, with overall checkup; teeth whitening; prosthesis or implants.
Likewise, it is recommended to enjoy the Quality of Life House services with cosmetology treatments, mud therapy and relaxation; as well as visits to a farm in order to enjoy the country environment, swim with dolphins and the so-called dance therapy.
The program presently targets the Canadian segment, but it will be diversified in the future to reach out to other markets and offer different tourism destination in the country, based on the Cuban Public Healthcare System’s potential and the travel industry infrastructure.
