Cuban healthcare professionals, whose medical care model has been internationally praised for their humanist values and work devotion, give value added to the state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge technology of countries like China y Qatar: the excellence of healthcare services.
Havana and Qatar are nearly 12,700 km away from each other, and there are some more kilometers between the largest island in the Caribbean and China. However, these nations are connected to the Caribbean archipelago by several bonds. Perhaps the one named Cuban Medicine is the most humane of them.
Trust, devotion, quality of services, expertise and rigorous training are some of the attributes used by the head of the Foreign Business Division with Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos Cubanos S.A. (CSMC), Mrs. Eucalia Mantilla, to explain the achievements of Cuban collaborators overseas.
Qatar or China are no exceptions. In those countries, our medical care model, focused on the patient, with high international prestige for its humanist values and work devotion, has been complemented by up-to-date infrastructure and top-of-the-line technology, and our professionals have been praised by the people and health authorities because of the excellent healthcare services provided.
Dukhan-based Cuban Hospital, totally managed by Cuban professionals, has become the institution with the best hospital indicators in the State of Qatar, according to Dr. Ernesto Lopez Cruz, Head of the Cuban Medical Mission in this country of the Persian Gulf.
“Over 400 collaborators –including doctors, nurses and healthcare technologists– work in this institution that opened its doors with basic services back in 2011 and it has considerably expanded its service portfolio. It mainly receives patients from the outskirts of Dukhan: Zekreet, Shahaniya and Um Baab. Nevertheless, according to official figures, over 35 percent of patients come from Doha, sent from Hamad Medical Corporation’s hospitals,” the doctor explained.
“With more than 75 beds and seven operating rooms for all specialties, the center undertakes some four surgeries a day in each room, and it offers patients a wide range of services in over 25 medical specialties, including comprehensive odontology, dermatology, endocrinology, gynecology, otorhinolaryngology, emergency services for children and adults, and general medicine. Laser surgery and dental implants are scheduled to be included this year,” Dr. Lopez Cruz pointed out.
The excellent training received by Cuban healthcare professionals stand out, the specialists said and highlighted that Dukhan-based Hospital has been certified by the International Joint Commission since 2015, a status that is assessed and renewed every year. Likewise, it was given the Pressganey International Nursing Award, in the United States.
Dr. Ernesto Lopez Cruz, who also leads the Representation Office of Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos S.A. (CSMC S.A.) in Qatar, also said that they are working to increase the Cuban medical presence in this country and possible contracts are being negotiated with State-run institutions and the private sector.
The same recognition level has been achieved in China, according to the legal consultant of the Cuban Medical Team in this Asian nation, Zulendrys Kindelan. Some 14 collaborators are providing services in Hefei City, Anhui province, as part of the Ophthalmology Service in the second most important hospital of the province. “We are looking forward to increasing the collaboration, by introducing two new specialists, so we can diagnose retinitis pigmentosa in China,” she said.
In 2017, the impact of the Cuban Medical Brigade in the communities of the Asian Giant was remarkable, especially in low-resource country settlements in Anhui province, thus giving them the opportunity to benefit from Cuban healthcare services.
The Beijing-based Representation Office of CSMC S.A., in charge of managing the export of Cuban medical services, is gaining momentum in the Chinese geography, looking for new collaboration and cooperation opportunities.
The presence of Chinese patients being treated in Cuba, especially those suffering from lung cancer; the participation in International Travel Fairs; talks with such national health commissions as the Family Health and Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China; visits, meetings and reunions with hospitals and companies interested in hiring professionals and specialists to provide medical care in health institutions, as well as contacts with universities in the Asian country to introduce Cuban teachers in their team of professors; show that Cuba is internationally prestigious in the fields of academic and scientific training for medical sciences.
