The supreme simplicity of artistic talent
The “Palacio Nacional de Bellas Artes” (National Palace of Fine Arts) of Mexico is an enclosure with several spaces, and its main hall, of French style as the whole building built in the so-called Porfirian era, only by exception schedules projects outside concert music. But when Tomeguín Cultural proposed Chucho Valdés, he got a resounding yes in response. The Maestro always had the hope to play there, and Sareska Escalona insisted on making it a reality, despite the opinion of several promoters and specialists who argued that it would not work due to the short time they had to organize it. But the admiration and deep friendship that emerged in the initial days of the “Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna” (Cuban Orchestra of Modern Music) outweighed any risk.
Chucho Valdés´s fame - and rather than fame, the recognition of his talent among Mexicans - finally prevailed. And the night of Saturday May 25, 2019 has been recorded among the great musical events in the history of that cultural institution.
