A Growing Industry
The travel industry has generated $10 billion dollars in the Dominican Republic, according to Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García. This means that in the 2012-2014 period the sector climbed 17.5 percent from the 2010-2012 timespan, due to the international promotion developed by Dominican authorities.
Mr. García also said that over the past two years, as many as 9.5 million tourists visited the country, which means 800,000 more than the previous period, up 9.25 percent above the prediction made by the World Tourism Organization.

Whoever visits the Dominican Republic can see that the country goes way beyond all expectations. Eco-adventures, history, traditions, world-class beaches and lodgings make this destination stand out as one of the top picks in the Caribbean region.
Punta Cana: One of the most popular places in the Caribbean. Nestled in the eastern territory of the island, bathed by the Atlantic waters, the cape is a beach paradise with white sand and turquoise waters. Most of the hotels based in that area feature all-inclusive programs and organize outdoor activities, such as all-wheel rides, visits to caves and mangrove swamps.
Santo Domingo: America’s Primatial Cathedral is in Santo Domingo and is the oldest one in the continent. The city is one of the great capitals of entertainment, with hundreds of bars and restaurants, carnivals and merengue festivals.
Faro a Colón: Columbus’ Lighthouse can be visited in Santo Domingo. It’s a monument and museum that pays tribute to the heroic deed of the man who discovered America.
Los 27 Charcos de Damajagua: In this park located in Puerto Plata, you can splash into different water chutes made up of pools and rocks.
Samaná Whales: The bay of Samaná is a perfect site to watch humpbacked whales that swim down from the northern hemisphere to this location between December and April.
Cayo Paraíso: It’s an atoll, a 100-meter-long oceanic coralline island that can be reached after a one-hour boat ride.
Puerto Plata: Some of Puerto Plata’s beaches are excellent to practice windsurfing and other watersports.
