- Opened wings to the universe.
On September 24, in Oaxaca de Juarez, a city nestled in a valley whose historic center is a World Heritage Site, took place the debut of the Company Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba, leaded by the teacher and choreographer Lizt Alfonso. This debut was organized by the prestigious Alfredo Harp Helu Foundation, headed by his wife, Maria Isabel Grañen Porrua. The Company presented for the first time ever outside Cuba the show Alas (Wings). This was also the first time that the Company Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba intended to perform at Benito’s Juarez birth land.
People of all ages crowded the majestic hall of Macedonio Alcala Theater not just on the 24, but also on the 26, to applaud from start to finish these fourteen dancers that rallied on theirs wings to help spectators fly with the most impressive dance. As a final result the audience was absolutely astonished.
The visit to Oaxaca also included opened classes in which participated mainly young lovers of the dancing art. All this events were covered by the press that addressed Lizt Alfonso, impressed with the results of the show and avid to know detailed information about the company. The teacher told the reporters that what happened with Alas has not been a coincidence. «With no doubt one of the features that distinguishes the Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba is that despite being a repertory company, the works never remain immovable. You may be convinced that we never offer a function like another, even if it is the same one. We start from the source, but we make it evolve with time».
The reaction of the public during the nights of September 29 and 30 in the auditorium of the Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), and in the State Theater of Mexicali, in October 2nd , where the company presented the show Bailando (Dancing!) was exactly the same. The ovations always came accompanied by cheers and multiple «Viva Cuba!», that deserved the compromise to fly back to Mexico as soon as the possibilities come, just to the place where these wings started their flight to the universe.
