- Jorge Perugorría presents the new image of the Gibara International Film Festival.
This year we are going to change its name, instead of International Festival of Poor Cinema, will be International Film Festival of Gibara. We want to broaden the spectrum of the films that participate, that is, to make it more inclusive with regards to its competitors and also from a conceptual point of view.
However, as inheritors of Humberto Solás’ project we will maintain the continuity of the Poor Film Festival with the creation of the Lucía Awards for best fiction feature, best fiction short-film, best short and long documentary, best director, best actress and best actor. We will create the Humberto Solás Prize, which will be delivered to the film under construction that best meets the requirements of Humberto’s Poor Film Festival Manifesto.
We have designed a multicultural program that will include a show of theater, dance, music... We will inaugurate the festival with a concert by Pablo Milanés and will also have the performance of Kelvis Ochoa, David Torrens, David Blanco, Red Cloud, Eliades Ochoa ... And although we are still weaving the skein of what is going to happen, we
want to close with Issac Delgado.
It is confirmed the presence of Puerto Rican actor and producer Benicio del Toro, who
will deliver the Lucia Awards for the work of life.
The colloquia, led by Reinaldo González, National Prize for Literature 2003, will have Natalia Bolivar, Cuban painter, writer and ethnologist.
We intend to create an office to ensure the logistics, and a video library where Humberto's legacy is collected, everything he did there so it becomes the Cinematographic Mementos of Gibara.
