Undoubtedly, tourism, inserted in historical-cultural spaces, boosts economy at a rate incomparably faster than many other productive sectors. Trinidad is today a magnificent reference of such statement. Incorporating this smoke-free industry into a territory of such high significance for our history, culture and identity has been the focus of several generations of scholars and curators in the city.
It is a must to provide products with high standards in the cultural sector, fill empty spaces in areas such as theater, dance, ballet, festivals, events and international conferences, that can meet the demands of cultural tourism, which is increasingly closer to cities of exceptional values.
Trinidad is one of the most important archeo-historical and cultural reserves. Its location close to the sea provides a line of coasts of extensive coral bottoms and nice beaches. It is also a city enclosed by the Valle de los Ingenios, declared together with Trinidad as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1988. The mountain range of Guamuhaya, known as Sierra del Escambray, a natural park that is the repository of the history of our independence wars, serves as a backdrop for that fertile plain, which is a conjunction of a natural landscape and a reservoir of flora and fauna endemic to the archaeological remains of ancient mills for sugar manufacturing.
If there is a place where you live day by day what Alejo Carpentier called lo real maravilloso americano, that one is Trinidad. And here the wonder comes true, perhaps only requiring for its full enjoyment the careful redesign of an Integrated Management Plan capable of resizing the cultural services sector in order to continue raising the living standards of the population, and that tourists can fully enjoy the best of our artistic manifestations.
