- THE CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR Ch.ACO
The Ch.ACO Contemporary Art Fair has regularly been held in Santiago de Chile. In this edition, forty galleries have participated, almost all of them from South America.
Ch.ACO has been split into four sections: Main, Planta, Focus and Nave de Ediciones. The main galleries have been assembled in Main; at Planta we have been able to contemplate various creative and management projects, mainly from Latin America; Focus is a space open to a dialogue between artists taking the object/subject as a common element, in which eighteen artists from nine galleries are invited. And finally Nave de Ediciones consists of offering the public a place to consult and read national and international journals specialized in contemporary art.
Of the Latin American galleries, the majority are Chilean, like AFA-Art for Art-, with works by English photographer Martin Parr, known in Spain for his interest in social issues, mainly those that refer to his country. In the CO Gallery, the neo-figurative Barcelona painter Roser Bru, who went into exile in Chile at the end of the Spanish Civil War, stands out. We also have to thank that we are able to contemplate some paintings by Roberto Matta in the Prima Gallery. I found it strange that, when visiting several museums of contemporary art in Santiago, I did not find any of his works exhibited, except for a large mural on the subway in the capital. It is obvious that many of his works are in the main museums of the world, but at least in his country of origin there should be a museum dedicated to his work.
In the editorial and publications section, the Nave de Ediciones, there are ten publishers, only one European: the Danilo Montanari, from the Italian city of Ravenna, specialized in books of photography and contemporary art, and with more than eight hundred titles.
