- From the Amazon to Bariay
He does not say “Antonio Núñez Jiménez.” He talks about “my boss and friend,” and mentions only his first name: Núñez. He has returned to Holguín to preside over the panel «Antonio Núñez Jiménez. A lifetime´s work for history,” in honor of the 95th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Cuban revolutionary, at the Thirteenth “Congreso de Pensamiento” and as part of the 24th edition of the Festival of Iberian-American Culture.
Ángel Graña recalls the more than thirty years over which he accompanied the scientist, geographer and spelunker, who created in 1994 the Fundación de la Naturaleza y el Hombre (Foundation of Nature and Man,) of which Graña is currently its vice president. Of all the adventures with his master, he will never forget the one that led him to join the mythical expedition "In a Canoe from the Amazon to the Caribbean."
Arte por Excelencias talks with him on the eve of October 28, the date that marks three decades after Núñez Jiménez, he and other members of the expedition arrived at the bay of Havana, after more than six hundred days of voyage: the date when the Fiesta de los Pueblos Nuevos (Festival of the New Peoples) takes place in Bariay.
