May arrives with its last spring airs at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts of Washington D.C. with Arts in Cuba: from the Island to the World. The Malpaso dance company arrives there, the only one of the contemporary style that will perform at the prestigious cultural complex on May 11 and 12.
Three pieces of the well-thought-out repertoire: Vals indomable, a duet titled Ocaso and a version of 24 horas y un perro; a sort of interweaving of established choreographers such as Aszure Barton, along with emerging artists like Osnel Delgado. The latter also serves as the artistic director of the company, and his personal history is inextricably linked to the foundation of Malpaso, like that of Daile Carrazana’s.
Malpaso was founded in December, 2012 by Daile Carrazana, Osnel Delgado and Fernando Sáez. But it is not until March 2013 when it appeared in the register of the Centro de la Danza (Dance Center.) After five years on stage and the aura of risk and failure everywhere, the company has over ten versatile and committed dancers, and is associated with the Joyce Theater in New York, which they identify as their second home.
After the performance at the Kennedy Center, they will participate in the Illuminator festival, in Toronto, Canada, with a choreographic version of Osnel Delgado of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, among other proposals.
