A year

A year has passed by since you first received us in your hands, a year full of emotions, work, fast-learning on a part of the world even unknown for us.

We have been supported by a team of collaborators, customers that backed us from the very beginning and by faithful readers. Thanks to this common effort, the magazine is being distributed and read in distant sites like Spain, Mexico, Aruba, Venezuela, Bahamas, the United States, Canada and other European and Caribbean countries.

This is just for us the beginning of a path we hope to be a very long one, still many things remain to be done, many countries to speak about and little excellent things to offer.

Our objective continues being the same, to make the Caribbean closer so that its main features be known: their peoples, culture, landscapes, special characteristics, not only sun and beaches, but adventures which attract us every passing day.

We celebrate the first anniversary of our magazine with the feeling and satisfaction of working for a different and exciting project. Congratulations for you all and our appreciation for such a warm welcome.

MAGIC 10

Why is there figure numbers, places or monuments that become magic? Maybe there will be a hidden motive, but really this is a fact.

Number ten (10) is special and the end of also the year.

This is the number ten of our magazine, this one that you have in your hands just right now, and it is for all us like an anniversary, like an arrival to a different and privileged place where we are impulsed to continue to reach many more magic numbers.

Somebody have travelled with us the whole walk, some others come with us today, but with everybody we wish to travel to a new piece of the Caribbean, to arrive to unknown places like there where we can find always the snow, and we can sail to Martinica to sink in the green of its forests, in the blue of its waters and to take a walk by the past through the rum haciendas, by the hand of the charming inhabitants.

This is a moment to say goodby to the year, our first complete year as “excellences”, from these pages, closing the eyes to travel by the magazine to places that only exists in our imagination and giving cheers for many more destinations, many more years, many more readers. Walking this road, we will reach the number 100, even you do not notice.

The Caribbean Region, 1999

We are now living the last year of the century and the impression cannot bethat this is just another passing year.

The civilized world continues its steady “progress”. New machines have been invented aimed at making our lives more comfortable, travelling is cheaper, safe and faster even to the stars...there is another part of the world where changes are more gentle, its pace continues being the same as if the rest of the world did not count, may be they have less but enjoy happiness, real happiness, “this is another thing!”

Who dares to state that we are more happy and self-fulfilled surrounded by many items? In some occasions this just shows us how little and lonely we are.

However in the Caribbean there are still small sites to enjoy one of those things that the rest of the world has been losing, still they spend hours talking to an unknown person on a beautiful sunset, still there are places that are kept intact from the discovery times and first of all, still we can see something that draws our attention.

It could be a way of looking, a taste, a rite, an idea; we just have to open up our mind and hearts and allow the Caribbean to fully captures us with its spell.

Join us in this travel to the future, but do not forget the present nor the past and especially bear in mind that the Caribbean is all this and much more.

An eternal spring...

Perhaps the main attraction of the Caribbean is the idyllic image that spring season is enjoyed all year round, the sun shines every single day and the intense blue color of the sea is with us as soon as we step on this region.

Just to have this recollection would be a superficial view and a simplification of this image.

The Caribbean region is such a complex and intense melting pot that we need many lives and pages to portrait just a light view of its content. Over forty countries live in an area where history is a complex full of influences, arrivals, departures, love and hated.

The race mixture is its wealth, the number of different religions and rites that surprise the european visitor, especially in these days when the Holy Week is about to come.

Different colors, food and music... If we become travelers instead of tourists, we can feel the "intrigue" of what is not seen at first sight, of what should be found to love this region once we get acquainted with it and then learn from what it offers.

Beautiful beaches and good climate can be found in various places, but so different sites that move us and make us think, not many. Multidestination is thus the most proper way to see the variety of different worlds in a single trip and this is the option we are offering.

Our goal is that on any page of our magazine, tourists can find the topics that contribute to make a choice, a destination, so that once in the site they discover their own ability to be amazed at the scenery chosen.

Travel!!!

What a curious word that could be named the queen of present times: to travel. Everything now "travels": people, information, images...

He who does not travel, simply aspires to do it. If we are asked about an impossible wish would be that of travelling around the world. If we had money, we would travel to far-away places. If we had to choose an ideal job, that would be one where we travel.

Distance is shortened, time does not exist, we can have lunch in Spain and dinner in the Caribbean without noticing it, an article can be written in the Caribbean and the dummy can be made in Madrid in a reasonable time.

With Internet, the world has been placed into a screen, it's a question of patience. Any inquiry or anything we want to know out of curiosity is solved just asking and using the proper word.

Sometimes I have the impression that with so much "travelling" and movement, we run the risk of losing the genuine sense of travelling, the curiosity and the ability of getting surprised.

I would like so much that through our pages we may encourage the spirit of discovering small places, unique people, new tours, different aspects, impossible to be attained looking at the screen of a computer.

I would like we continue loving the paper, reading, experimenting vertigo before a new destination that make us learn, open the mind and the spirit towards the unknown.

Our illusion is to contribute with this protagonist concept: "travel," but also by means of the imagination with our magazine, dreaming through its pages toward a wonderful destination that is waiting for us: the Caribbean.
