From June 13-16, Chic'99 was held at the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, Bahamas, one of the most spectacular hotels of the Caribbean area where the natural surroundings and the artistic activity have been perfectly integrated.

With the attendance of over 1,000 delegates, Rt. Hon. Hubert Ingraham, Bahamas' prime minister, Edward Malone, CHA's president and Dion Strachan, President of Bahamas' National Hotel Association, participated in the inauguration ceremony, among others. This meeting, the last of the millenium, has as an objective the future strategic planning, using all the resources now available in the world of tourism in the Caribbean area. Some of the most important events were two new CHA members in Colombia: San Andrés and Providencia, thus reaching the figure of 36 members of the national hotel association and also the second anniversary of CAST program with the new name of "Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism," whose function is to support hotel executives to achieve an effective policy towards the use of environmental resources in accordance with the policy of turning the Caribbean into a world leader in the efforts aimed at protecting the environment. This program has been possible thanks to the support of different companies among which excels American Express, American Airlines and different hotels of the Caribbean. During the course of the event, different prizes were also granted: American Express, sponsored the prize of the "Employee of the Year " granted to Roslyn Jeffers from Nisbet Plantation Beach Club in Nives, West Indies. In Jamaica. "Green Hotel of the Year" award was granted to the Mocking Bird Hill Hotel of Port Antonio in the category of small hotels and Negril Cabins Resort in Negril in the large-hotel category, among many more.
