Roberto Ávila´s dreams and mysteries
Roberto Ávila Ramírez is aimed at portraying in his work a whole range of philosophical problems faced today by contemporaneous man. Such an ambitious project has taken this academic-trained artist to create a work that always establishes a relation between the human being and his world.
Roberto Ávila Ramírez (Villa Clara, 1956) taught for 17 years philosophy in higher education centers in the province where he was born. In the eighties was a period in which he works on artistic craft using elements from Cuban aboriginal and pre-Columbian American cultures. As an adolescent, he was interested in drawing and since 1993, was only devoted to painting. The work that is being done now by Roberto Ávila Ramírez who since 1996 resides in Matanzas, focuses on the landscape. A long tradition is followed with a new perspective. Thus this display of paintings, the themes of color and light that were used by other creators, are used again but with a different perspective. It is as if the landscape were not the core of the painting, but the composition and this landscape is merely what the artist wants to transcend beyond the canvas. As apparent signs of what was stated above are this small valley that emerges from a parchment framework or that river which is protected by a shirttail. Man however is not a lively presence in the canvas, but what a contradiction without the human being, these paintings won't be a reality, since man is present in the link established when his action has transformed the landscape for good or bad. Nonetheless to achieve this dialogue, one should be convinced that the thoughts portrayed in these paintings go beyond the borders of what is conventional.
