Painter Alicia Leal has not completed a work when she is beginning another and another that turns her in an untiring worker, abiding by almost a Spartan discipline.

IT’S no wonder that her works deals with everyday experiences in her relation with her family, friends, the usual conflicts of the woman with the family, among others, because this is her closer world and the context where she interacts. "I have worked maternity in such a way that seems to be absurd as in the case of the painting where a heart, instead of a child, springs from the womb," explains to Excellences magazine during an exclusive interview. Her paintings also deal with topics such as the couple, the myths, legends from the countryside and the circus because of her farmer’s origin, though Alicia Leal left Sancti Spíritus—in the central area of Cuba—to come to Havana at the age of three. She has dedicated part of her life listening the accounts and legends that her family has told her for years. She has dedicated part of her life listening the accounts and legends that her family has told her for years. Regarding the circus, the painter refers that this colorful world, made of shows and conflicts derived of the nomad life . The way she sees plastic arts is very special as a spiral where things come and go. For example at present there is an approach to religious precepts, she indicated—out-of-fashion topics—that have returned now. Leal explains that at present there is also a trend named as "Appropriation" and you can see artists that copy in a faithful manner the use of costumes, atmospheres and postures of that time. Regarding inspiration, Alicia believes that this is a relative matter since her allies are hardwork and perseverance which have made her to preserve her constant desire of continue expressing what she has inside. Still my work is not yet completed, I believe that this is not what I wanted to do, and in the next painting, I’ll do it."
