Edition no. 1 of the magazine

Five years could mean to be all or nothing. For us, it's a lifetime because we are celebrating these days the magazine's 40th issue and its first five years. Sitting down to describe a child's first five years of existence shouldn't be a cakewalk; sitting down to talk about something we gave birth to –even though it's a magazine we're talking about- is no walk in the sun, either.

The very first issue was done with more hardworking than materials. We wanted to talk about and print the Excellencies of a region of the world –virtually unknown then for us and for many people. Out of this idea from the bottom of the heart, others have followed suit along these years to meet both needs and demands in the market, as well as in the Caribbean and Latin America. Thus, the publication is now published in six languages –Spanish, English, German, French, Italian and Dutch.

The professional realm also struck our attention as we noticed a lack of communication and information cutting a great divide between both sides of the planet. The response to that was Caribbean News, a professional printed bulletin now complemented with an online version.

The Internet is something we rendered as a key element from the word go. That's why, Caribbean Tourist Excellencies launched out simultaneously a printed issue and a Web site: www.excelencias.com. From that moment on, we decided to create a portal on the Caribbean and Latin America in several languages that has eventually become one of the most clicked-on dot-coms with over 3 million monthly visits: www.caribeinside.com.

And I can't conclude this review without mentioning other less ambitious means that also belong to us, such as Excelencias de la Formación, Diplomaticas Magazine, Soy del Caribe or Cuadernos de Viajes.

In a word, many things in so little time that wrap up a stage with the satisfaction of featuring a 75,000-copy OJD in the project's original magazine.
