Baracoa
The city of waters, mountains, rains, landscapes. The First City of Cuba, any of these names can be chosen and still Baracoa will always be a charming place gifted by Nature. At the entrance of the Caribbean, near the Windward Passage is Baracoa, resembling a natural guide that keeps the magic of being the first city founded.
The most characteristic feature of the area is its geographical relief, which is 95% predominantly mountainous shaped as blades, among them the Cullichas de Toa, declared by UNESCO, Reserves of the Biosphere and of Baracoa.
A symbol of Baracoa is El Yunque, a mountain of 560 m high which resembles a plateau, exhibiting a very varied flora, surrounded by coffee plantations, yagrumas, ferns, cedars, ocujes and palms.
Alexander Humbolt National Park features samples of its exclusive attributes; species as the almiquí, the caguarero sparrowhawk and the royal woodpecker inhabit the place; the manatee¾the national fish¾also in danger of extinction, is well-preserved in its shelter.
Baracoa's rivers: Yumurí, Duaba, Miel, Toa, Macaguanigua and hundreds of streams exhibit clear and pure waters and its beaches: Yumurí, Barigua, Manglito, Maguana, Miel. Duaba, Mapurisí and Nibujón, among others, make up the heritage of its extensive hydrographic universe.
Baracoa is also be regarded as the capital in Cuba in reference to wood, coconut and cacao.
