Lenin ParkA destination to discover
VERFLYING the Isle of Cuba, a green stain that encompasses 745 hectares can be seen from aboard a plane on the south of Havana City and near the airport. This area has a number of buildings where stone is daringly predominant as a construction material and the name is Lenin Park. This huge park, unique in Cuba and born on April 22, 1972 with the objective of providing the Cuban family with a wide place for leisure, surrounded by an exuberant vegetation, includes near 200 hectares of forest with representative species of the Cuban flora and it is a permanent shelter of several wild animals, mainly birds. Walking along this extensive and wonderful place without sidewalks, pebbles or architectural barriers is like searching into the Cuban past, going back into times, many centuries ago, in the midst of a natural scenario where a singular and beautiful building is erected: Las Ruinas Restaurant, an haute cuisine facility, whose architecture synthesizes the daring flash of what is new surrounded by the mysterious charm of the old. Another wonder of the Park is its internal means of transportation—the little train—running along the first railroads ever built in Cuba which has always been one of the main attractions and runs 9.5 kilometers, starting from the English Station, built at a scale for children, following the style of the old ones, or the typical stations of that time. Light, varied, different gastronomic offers are available, spread in diverse food sales points all over a gorgeous valley, abundant in diverse species of plants, ferns, unique landscapes, rich biodiversity and harmonic polychromy in this area of forest, rivers and lagoons. In brief, Lenin Park offers an endless number of attractions to fully spend a wonderful day, a luminous and stunning destination, still to be discovered.
