"...Cuba is a paradise. If I get lost, look for me in Cuba or in Andalusia..." (Federico García Lorca).

With this phrase by the noted Spanish poet and an image of his countenance on a commemorative stamp, started the legal circulation of this stamp issued by the Post and Telegraph Office of the Ministry of Communications of Cuba, the very day that the centennial of the birth of Spanish poets was held. Abel Prieto, Minister of Culture of Cuba, his excellency, the Spanish ambassador to Cuba, Don Eduardo Junco Bonet, jointly and other distinguished guests, attended the ceremony. This anniversary has attained a very special meaning in Cuban cultural institutions. Among the activities organized the holding of the II Ibero-American Meeting of Hispanic Studies, summoned by the José María Chacón y Calvo Center for Hispanic Studies to be held from 26-31 October and devoted on this occasion to the poet, is particularly distinguished. It will hold a number of masterly lectures which will contribute to the knowledge of this poet. Lectures will be delivered on the occasion of this event by Ian Gibson, Lorca's biographer; Juan de Loxa, President of Lorca of Granada Cultural Patronage; Manuel Fdez Montesinos, Member of the National Commission for the Lorca Centennial in Spain and of the Lorca Foundation of Madrid; Raúl Capitani, painter and engraver; Pablo Armando Fdez, writer, President of the Cuban National Commission for Lorca's Centennial; Cintio Vitier, Cuban poet and essayist; Salvador Bueno, President of the Cuban Academy of the Language; among others.
