Habanos S.A. reveals a secret that had been zealously kept for almost thirty years now and presents Trinidad brand to the international market.
Fans of the best tobacco in the world who are from every nook of the globe, gathered in Havana to attend the exceptional occasion when Trinidad cigars, the revelation of the new millenium in the Cuban cigar industry, were presented to the world. The mystery was revealed on February the 20th, integrated to Habanos program for the threshold of the year 2000. Near the 30th birthday of the famous factory El Laguito, on which legendary Cohiba cigar is made, the mysterious veal that covered Trinidad cigars was removed. This brand was originally produced in limited amounts under severe measures of quality control and were specifically given as gifts from the Cuban State Council and the Ministry of Foreign Relations. They will soon be available at the most refined tobacco retails. The sale will start on Casas del Habano in Cuba, Mexico and Canada. The brand, created in 1969, is inspired by the elegance and glamour of the most colonial among Cuban cities. In the last few years, it became an oddity chased by collectors and those who love the pleasure of smoking cigars. This revelation, that will quickly spread with each voluteof smoke every time somebody lights up a fancy Trinidad, had a Gala Dinner at the renowned Salón de Embajadores (Ambassadors’ Saloon) in Habana Libre Tryp Hotel, a symbol of the Cuban capital. More than 400 personalities from the world of communications, arts and business, as well as distributors and detailers of habanos from Middle and Far East, Europe, The United Sates, Canada and South America –American actors Matt Dillon and Niki Lauda, Austrian Formula 1 ex champion, among others – acclaimed the presentation of Trinidad Founders, the first standard shape and size for cigars that enters the market, on stage. Trinidad Founder is a cigar of large format, 192 millimeters long, similar size to Cohiba lancers but with a larger diameter, 15.87 millimeters, what is known among specialists as cepo 40 (joining press). It is a cigar made to be enjoyed among friends, to render a pleasant chat after a business dinner, or to delight oneself in those moments of meditation or remembrance. In an environment of joy, sprinkled with fine wines and exquisite dishes and accompanied by the contagious Cuban music, the winners of the prize Habano Man of the Year came to be known. Samuel Menzi, owner of Casa del Habano in Switzerland, got the award for his Managing in Detail Commerce; Simon Chasse, Marketing Director for Humter and Frankau firm, in Great Britain, got the award to the most distinguished person in Communications; and German Henrich Villiger, President of Quinta Avenida Co., got the award Habanos Man of the Year in Business. The climax of the night was an auction of five luxurious humidors filled with the best cigars in the market. The festival gathered 305.000 dollars which will be destined to the Cuban public health system.
